1.3 Opening Reception

Apart from Prime Minister’s visit to open the exhibition, an opening reception was held on the evening of the 31st of May for invited guests. Gracing the occasion was President of the Japan Foundation H.E. Hiroyasu Ando and Curator of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Mr Masanori Moroyama.

Former Director of Japan Creative Centre, Minister Counsellor Toshihide Ando gave his welcome remarks and expressed his delight at Prime Minister Abe’s visit to JCC. He added that this exhibition in particular provides us with a glimpse into the intricate world of the techniques and designs involved in traditional Japanese ‘monozukuri’, better known as craftsmanship in English.

Following Minister Counsellor Toshihide Ando’s welcome remarks, President of the Japan Foundation, H.E. Hiroyasu Ando gave his opening address and elaborated on the WA project, a new cultural exchange programme announced by Prime Minister Abe last year.

Mr Masanori Moroyama also gave his introductory remarks about the exhibition and invited the artists present to the front. He then introduced each of the artists to the guests in attendance and mentioned his joy at the exhibition being held at JCC.
